Will "Hey Alexa" Become "Yes Alexa?"
Earlier this month, Amazon’s head scientist in charge of Alexa’s development, Rohit Prasad, gave an interview to the MIT Technology Review on his vision for Alexa’s future that has divided readers into camps of excitement or terror.
According to the interview, the crux of Amazon’s plan is for the voice assistant to move from passive to proactive interactions. Rather than wait for and respond to requests, Alexa will anticipate what a user might want, turning Alexa into an omnipresent companion that actively shapes and orchestrates your life. This will require Alexa to get to know you better than ever before.
Some commentators have shared how fascinated they are by this technical achievement that will connect their smart house to their car to eventually everywhere on-the-go with Echo Buds and Echo Loop because they want more personalized experiences, while others fear for their privacy as the implications of this technology are greater than just using your data to advertise and market to you.
Whichever side you’re on, Amazon is pushing Alexa enabled devices to increase the number of touchpoints it is collecting data on every minute of every day, so you can only imagine they will continue to increase the devices, where those devices can be used, and that Google will follow suit.
If you’re not working with Amazon already, now would be a good time to learn more about their vision for the future to make sure Alexa suggests your brand over competitors.
